Calling All Photographers

February 17th, 2010 | VADA News

I try to keep my blog free of too much clutter and shameless, self-promotion. I have been breaking those rules a bit as of late. I know a good portion of my blog followers are other photographers. I wanted to let everyone about a number of wonderful opportunities I am excited to be a part of over the next couple months.

While I am a photographer first and foremost, anyone that has spent any time around me knows I have a passion for teaching as well. As a self-professed geek, I really enjoy the entire learning process. I have been honored to speak at two upcoming seminars. The first will be in Brainerd on March 27th. The entire day is geared towards amateur photographers that would like to take their photography to the next level. I will be sharing the stage with John Linn, an extremely talented photographer. We will both be discussing how to visualize and execute a photograph that creates impact through a series of live shoots. Additional speakers during the day include: Doug Beasley, Steven Bye, and Peter Wong. Registration is $40 for the day. Click here to download a pre-registration form. Limited registration available the day of as well.

I will be speaking a few weeks later at the Northern Lights Professional Photographer convention in Watertown, SD. I am absolutely humbled by the quality of talent that are literally traveling from all over the world to speak. If you are a wedding photographer (no matter if you choose to see me or not) I would highly recommend attending Jerry Ghionis and Parker Pfister’s presentations. For $349 and three plus days of speakers, this workshop is an absolute steal. My presentation is definitely specific to professional wedding photographers. More information can be found on NLPP’s website.

Last but definitely no least, I have started a separate website specifically for professional photographers called Photography Confessions. I receive numerous emails a week from other professionals about how I do things. My goal was to create a place just for professionals that is a little different from other photographer based blogs out there. I hope to see you there!

Not Your Basic Black

February 17th, 2010 | VADA News

Everything I do is about each couple’s unique story. Nowhere do I feel this story can be better presented than a wedding album. The album is my finished piece of art. My hope for every couple is their wedding story grows stronger over time and their album becomes a treasured family heirloom.

A tremendous amount of time and dedication is put into each album project. It is often hard to see an album leave the studio when they are complete. I feel a personal connection to each one. Every album design is custom. I firmly believe one’s story cannot be fit into a template.

As of late, I have been creating awesome books with some super funky cover options. (I will share those in a future post.) That said, black cover materials are far and away most couples number one choice. Why not! Black is timeless and elegant. For those looking for a little bit of edge, I have the answer.

Here are a few albums I have received back from my binders over the last few weeks. Note the gorgeous silk option mixed with the rich, full-grain leather. Want a little bit of more funk? Check out the black ostrich – rich and elegant with a splash of pizazz.

This time of year, I could fill my blog with individual album posts. I fear that may become overwhelming to new visitors. So, I have setup a Facebook fan page for VADA Photography where I will highlight some of my favorite album designs. If you aren’t a fan, join today! I hope to see you there.

It is such an honor to be selected as one of the Best Wedding Photographers in Minnesota! What makes it even more of an honor is this nomination came from real brides. Looking forward to an incredible 2010.

Happy Holidays

December 23rd, 2009 | Uncategorized

I just delivered the last portrait order promised before Christmas. I have had a wonderful year. I am so thankful for all the couples that give me the creative freedom to document their lives. I am going to be out of the studio until Monday spending time with my favorite posse.

I know this is a super busy time for engagements and wedding planning. I will be in all next week. I look forward to talking with you about your wedding plans.

Happy Holidays!

Jessica + Brian

December 2nd, 2009 | Wedding

A few posts back, I spoke about how I enjoy experiencing wedding events for the first time. This entire year has been filled with many firsts. After thirteen years of documenting weddings, it is exciting to see how couples think of so many special ways to celebrate their love.

Jessica and Brian’s wedding was on Halloween. (A wedding first!) It was another cold day where I froze a bridesmaid or two for the sake of creating a killer image. Beyond a chill in the air, Jessica and Brian’s day was perfect and filled with so many fun details. Check out the masquerade masks!

I noticed when I photographed Jessica and Brian’s engagement session that anytime their eyes met they would share a wonderful smile or laugh. It is so visibly obvious they have a deep love for each other. Their wedding day was full of joy! Jessica and Brian are an amazing couple.

Thank you so much Andrea, David and John! It means so much coming from three great artists. Amy, I hate to tell you but 2010 marks my 14th year of weddings. Would it help if I said I started photographing at 12? Twenty-six sounds like a fun age to be again :)

Great pics…love the masks, there must be a story behind those. And I love the blue shoes. I’ve seen a few brides recently choosing colored shoes, must be the new in thing.

And 13 years Biff….REALLY? I know I’m not that old so you must be lying.
