Welcome to VADA Photography!

My name is Biff Ulm. I am a self-proclaimed romantic; not the kind of romantic that gets weepy over a sentimental movie or card. I believe in true, uncensored love. Love that is filled with joy, laughter, fear and excitement.

I photographed my first wedding fourteen years ago. I am as passionate today as I was then. There are few days in a person’s life like a wedding. A wedding day is filled with a roller coaster of emotions. Surrounded by one’s closest family and friends, it is the start of a family’s legacy. Those personal stories are what energize me to create. It is a story I hope grows stronger over time.

There are many styles of photography. You won’t find the word “average” in anything I do. I love capturing images that are a little different from the norm. I feel so fortunate when a couple hires me because they enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.

A question I see on many people’s face when we first meet, “Is you real name Biff?” With a name like Biff, people expect a guy like on Back to the Future or big athletic type. I definitely break that mold. But yes, Biff is my real name. Truth is my parents were kind of hippies, and here I am.

Beyond photography, I enjoy eating Cheetos and Oreo cookies (sometimes even at the same time.) I am proud dad of three incredible little boys who keep my curiosity alive. On a day off, you may find me spending time with my family, playing outside or on the water. I love traveling and eating good food (beyond Cheetos and Oreos.) I am a sucker for “B-Movies”. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favorite.)

Kara + Justin: Brainerd Engagement Photographer

If you are a follower of the VADA blog, you know it has been a super busy fall with lots of new images over the last few months. The blog is going on a little bit of a hiatus while I enjoy some time with my family on vacation the next two weeks. Don’t worry, I will be back soon with a super cool wedding and story about a pair of all-terrain Manolos.

I couldn’t think of a better couple to feature while I am gone than Kara and Justin. They are a very busy couple as well. They only had one day available for their engagement shoot in October. The weather was crazy. We saw sun, rain, and blizzard like snow all within 30 minutes of photographing. Kara and Justin didn’t allow anything slow them down and were up for whatever was needed to get the shot. I think it shows in their images.
